About the Hamilton Guitar Association

The Hamilton Guitar Association (formerly the Southern Ontario Fingerstyle Guiar Association) is an organization dedicated to the promotion of fingerstyle and flatpicking guitar styles in the Greater Hamilton area. Guitarists from all musical styles and backgrounds come together to perform, discuss and share their music in a non-competitive and encouraging environment. It is a wonderful opportunity to network and interact with like-minded musicians, as there is always something to learn from each other. The focus is on the guitar and the broad range of musical styles it can encompass.

A typical HGA meeting is divided into two parts:

1.) HGA Open Stage
The stage is open to guitar players of all levels and styles, two songs per performer. The open stage runs on a first come first serve basis so arrive early to reserve your spot. The stage is open to both acoustic and electric instruments. You may play solo or bring an accompanist. The open stage begins at 7:30PM and the featured performer starts at approximately 9:30.

2.) Featured Performer
The 2nd half of the evening is dedicated to a featured performer. The featured performer plays an extended set starting at 9:30 and running 30-45 min. This gives them the opportunity to showcase their music and share with the audience some of the different aspects of their style.  This is the kind of music you wouldn't normally hear anywhere else!

If you are not a guitarist and would like to just come and watch please do! Otherwise, bring your guitar, do some playing and have fun.

There is a $3 cover charge which is applied directly to the cost of running these meetings. The HGA meets every other Monday. Please see the main page for the schedule and directions. You may also wish to sign up for our newsletter sent out every other week.

Hope to see you sometime soon!
